CDF NEWS RELEASE California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection San Mateo/Santa Cruz Unit CONTACT: Kay Price Battalion Chief Fire Prevention 831.335.6720
RELEASE DATE: April 16, 2008
OPEN BURN SEASON CLOSED Until December 1, 2008
Felton – CAL FIRE in conjunction with the Monterey Bay Air Pollution Control District announces the OPEN BURN SEASON within the State Responsibility Areas of Santa Cruz County will close on April 18, 2008. Open burn season has been closed due to a number of factors, including low fuel level moistures in the area, the number of fires due to escapes from burn operations, wind conditions, and our current warm and dry weather. Burning out of season may result in a citation and you could be liable for ALL fire suppression costs. Agriculture, land management, fire training, and other industrial-type burning may proceed if a CAL FIRE official inspects the burn site and issues a special permit. Campfires are allowed in designated campgrounds, or in established facilities on private property, with permission of the jurisdictional authority. Persons doing burning under special permit must also check with their regional air quality management district for addition regulations and requirements.
